Jason Biggs continues to captivate moviegoers more than 25 years after his near encounter with a slice of steaming apple pie. He has starred in three sequels to American Pie and numerous other adolescent and sibling comedies.
In the early seasons of Orange Is the New Black, he portrayed Piper Chapman’s fiance, Larry. If you ever disagree with a companion about his favorite films, use this list to resolve the score.
1. American Pie 7: The Wedding Daze
A slew of teen comedies and bro movies followed the first American Pie. But the film that truly launched Jason Biggs as a star was this fourth installment of the franchise. He would portray Jim Levenstein a total of three more times, but this is the one that really put him on the map.
It’s hard to imagine anyone else in the role and even now, many people associate him with this movie. This was the first major lead role Biggs had in a movie, though he had previously appeared in gnula films such as Foxy Lady, The Sunshine Hour, Double Negative, National Lampoon’s Vacation and Splash.
Biggs also had a recurring role on the comedy series Mad Love and starred in the Broadway play Eight Below. He currently hosts the E! game show Cash at Your Door. He’s married to fellow actress Jenny Mollen and has two children. He currently resides in New York City with his family.
2. American Pie 8: The Wedding Daze
In the years since Biggs’ dessert-enhanced film debut, he’s appeared in a ton of teen and bro comedies. He even starred in a few television shows, including a short-lived sitcom and a role on Orange Is the New Black.
He still lands a few gigs here and there, but not nearly as many as he used to. He still tries to squeeze in movies, though, and sometimes succeeds.
Biggs and Isla Fisher make for a pretty likable fresh pair here, and the movie has plenty of laughs. But, it feels a little stuck in the American Pie mold and its attempts to up the gross-out ante don’t work as well as they could. The blu-ray features a decent commentary track by writer/directors Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg. But, it’s not enough to salvage this one.
3. American Pie 9: The Wedding Daze
Jason Biggs is an American movie star with a massive fanbase who has starred in a huge number of high-grossing movies. He is famous for his role in the American Pie series of films, but he has also starred in some other great movies as well.
After the success of American Pie, Biggs shifted gears and appeared in a number of sitcoms such as Mad Love. He has admitted that turning down a major role on How I Met Your Mother is one of his biggest regrets.
Wedding Daze stars Anderson (Jason Biggs) who tries to pop the question to his girlfriend Vanessa in a fancy restaurant while dressed as cupid. However, she dies from the shock of it all. To appease his best friend Ted, Anderson decides to give romance another shot and asks a waitress named Katie (Isla Fisher) to marry him. This slapstick comedy is funny at times but it’s also a bit of a letdown and feels like a lighter version of the previous American Pie films.
4. American Pie 10: The Wedding Daze
After a brief stint on Broadway and a Daytime Emmy nomination for the soap opera As the World Turns, Jason Biggs landed a starring role in American Pie that made him a star. While his subsequent films weren’t as good, he still managed to keep audiences laughing with a series of clumsy characters.
In this film, a man proposes to a waitress on a whim in an attempt to liven up his life, but his decision backfires hilariously. The movie stars Anderson, who is in a dead-end relationship and gets a life-change when his friend Ted convinces him to ask Katie (Isla Fisher) to marry him in a restaurant.
Despite some strained callbacks to 13-year-old gags, the sequel is funny enough to stand out from the pack of overblown teen sex comedies. It’s also a good sign that the franchise isn’t running out of steam just yet. Its stars are maturing, and Hurwitz is showing that the series can survive beyond its raunchy teen-themed origins.
