Steel Water Storage Tanks are the Number One
Steel water storage tanks are the best choice for homes and industries because the benefits from such tanks are more than any other type of tank. Moreover, stainless-steel water storage tanks are anti-corrosive, highly durable, and almost maintenance-free, which you can’t find in PVC or concrete tanks.
The stainless steel tank is the number one choice for all consumers. It reflects the sunlight it receives; therefore, it neither expands nor leaks due to heat. It remains ductile even in extremely challenging weather conditions. Besides, steel water storage tanks are also fire resistant and stay unaffected by ultraviolet light exposure.
Multiple Uses
People consider many factors while choosing a water tank for their business. SS water tank is the most preferred option in industries such as beverage, dairy, food, medicine, cosmetics, and manufacturing units where cleanliness and hygiene plays a crucial role. They are also used for storing gases and chemicals. There are big industries where stainless steel tanks find a lot of uses because such tanks are strong and sturdy, and PVC tanks fail to serve their purpose.
How are stainless steel water storage tanks maintained?
Stainless steel water storage tanks are very useful for industrial units and homes. Still, one major concern of SS water tank owners is how to maintain the cleanliness of their units. Here are some methods you should follow to keep your steel water storage tanks clean and fresh.
1. Choose a SS Water tank that is specially made for this purpose
Many people who purchase steel water storage tanks fail to get the proper unit. Usually, they end up buying a tank that is meant for industrial use and not for homes. Therefore, find a food-grade tank to keep your SS water tank suitable for human consumption. Food-grade materials used for manufacturing a polyethylene or stainless steel water tank are non-toxic.
Also, ensure that the fittings and connecting pipes for your water storage tanks are lead-free. As per standards for water guidelines, if your tank water contains more than 10 micrograms per liter of lead, it is not for human consumption. You should not use polluted water for drinking, cooking, or brushing your teeth.
2. The tank material should not affect the taste of the water
Some water tanks are made of materials that sometimes impart specific tastes to your water supply. For example, when you start using it, galvanized steel tanks can give a metallic taste. It happens because of the leaching due to an excess amount of zinc. Even concrete tanks have such problems as they release excess lime, leading to a high pH and a bitter taste of water. Usually, the water supply from other types of storage tanks is acidic.
3. Go for an opaque water storage tank
You may not be aware, but the color of a steel water storage tank plays a huge role in preventing algae formation. Although, light-colored PVC water tank may permit the sunlight to lead to algae growth. If that happens, it will make your stored water almost unusable. It is important to know that algae are a type of bacteria that can carry toxins that are very harmful to all living things. Such algae are very harmful to your pet and your plants.
4. Remove algae by using chlorine or bleaching
The most effective way to remove algae is to use chlorine or bleaching. It’s important to note that
you should use either of them. Ideally, you need to add 4 parts of chlorine to every 1,000,000 parts of water. Maintaining such a ratio will make your water supply safe for drinking or irrigation. The other option is to add 1/4 teaspoon of bleach to every gallon of water you store. Although, you need to be mindful of the right ratios because too much chlorine or bleach in your water can be harmful.
5. Always install the tank in a dark, cool place
Installing them in a dark and cool place will prevent algae growth in your water storage tank. But if you install it inside your homes, ensure it’s away from where you store fuel or other combustible substances that produce vapors. However, if your only option is to install it outdoors, try to find a spot where it’s not in direct contact with the sunlight.
6. Clean your water tank once every six months
It is necessary to clean your water tank at least once every six months. It will keep your tank
hygienic and free from dirt and contamination.
While cleaning your tank, ensure to empty the entire tank. After that, scrub it properly, and clean it with bleach or chlorine solution. It would be ideal if you did it more often. If you regularly maintain your steel tanks, they will remain in ideal condition for a long time.
