Some important facts.

The Valley of flowers was unknown to travelers and tourists for a long time. It is believed to have become popular after three British mountaineers led by Frank S Smyth visited here in 1931. Later the valley of flowers became a favorite spot for trekkers. One who is truly passionate about traveling and trekking can’t miss out on The valley of flowers from their bucket list. The Valley of flowers is now a World Heritage site by UNESCO and a National Park.

As the name suggests, the Valley of Flowers is a destination where the vibrant sublimation of nature offers a breathtaking experience. Exotic flowers (more than 600 species) such as orchids, poppies, primroses, marigolds, daisies, and anemones are an eye-catching sight. Sub-volcanic birch and rhododendron forests cover part of the park. The valley hike offers eye-catching sights like multi-tiered waterfalls and wild streams. Located at an altitude of about 3,600m above sea level, the valley is also home to rare and interesting wildlife species such as gray langur, flying squirrel, Himalayan mink, black bear, red fox, and pigeon butterfly. leopards, snow leopards, Himalayan gibbons, etc.

Starting point

The starting point for the Valley of Flowers trek starts from Govind Ghat with well-maintained roads. Depart from Govindghat to the launch site and ascend towards Ghangaria. You can walk along the Lakshman Ganga  River and see it until you cross the bridge. It is recommended to carry a walking stick when going to the Valley of Flowers. Although the road is flat, there are steep parts and it is dangerous. Either you can take a rest in the camps in a dense forest by enjoying the beauty of nature or you also have an alternative. The alternate path is to Hemkund Sahib which is known for the Sikh pilgrimage. Surrounded by mysterious glacial lakes and snow-capped mountains, you’ll find Gurdwara. The climb to Hemkund Sahib is a difficult but moderate hike. At 4 miles you reach almost 4,000 feet. This new battle adds to that, but it takes you to a scenic zone you never suspected. Along the way, you can see the Gangaia valley and flowers from a drone or helicopter perspective. If the hike is difficult, we can smooth it out. You can hire a mule. Both paths take one to a very relieving atmosphere.

 Another advantage of taking this trek is the option that it gives to visit Badrinath which is also a popular pilgrimage. 

Bird watching is a must when you come to Flower Valley. It is home to several exotic bird species, including Himalayan macaques. As well as its vibrant colors, it gives a sense of the diversity of the region.

Cultural experience

Gangaria is the last human settlement on the trek before reaching the Valley of Flowers. It is also the confluence of the Hemganga and Pushpawati rivers, formerly known as Lakshman His Ganga. Although it is covered with snow most of the year, he recommends planning your trip between May and September. But it’s worth the strenuous trek to explore this picturesque and quiet village. A great place for hiking, village walks, or experiencing nature and its wilderness.

When to visit

Flowers here are best seen from May to October. This time of year transforms the area into a botanical wonderland, while flower season is at its peak from July to September.

One should visit the valley of flowers during the monsoon season to see enchanting flowers like the Brahma Kamal, which blooms during the monsoon season.

Tips to make your journey easier 

It’s pretty tight, so we’ll take a short break on the way. Bring lots of spare clothes in case it rains. Also, make some preparations for the hike.

It is advisable to book your accommodation in advance as the accommodation is gradually getting crowded. You can also hire porters at Govind Ghat to make your trek more comfortable. There are no toilets on the trekking route or in the valleys, so you have to relieve yourself in nature.
