Together, they make up a special area of transition between the Great Himalaya and Zanskar mountain ranges. The park is roughly 8 km long and 2 km wide, covering an area of 87.50 km2. [2] The park is entirely contained inside the temperate alpine region. The Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve (223,674 acres), which also has a buffer zone surrounding it, includes both parks (5,148.57 km2). [4] The UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves includes the Nanda Devi National Park Reserve.
